Last Wednesday, our James River Rapids Field Hockey team brought the Midlothian Trojans to “The Swamp” for an exciting game. Last time the field hockey team played Midlothian this season was at Midlothian High. JV lost that away game 3-0 and varsity won that game in overtime 2-1. Both teams knew they had to work harder than any game before if they wanted to win.
First came the JV game that was very intense for their coach, Lauren, and for them. Both Midlothian and James River had a strong defense and kept the game to a tie of 0-0. It was a very nerve racking game with many shots on goal for both teams. Thanks to James River JV goalie, Grace Erwin, those shots on their goal did not go in. After the game, Coach Lauren said, “ We could have done a better job with our offence and moving the ball down the field as a team but we played strong gritty defense so I was happy with that.”
Next up came the Varsity game. During the game there were lots of strong transitions and passes. The ball control for both Midlothian and James River was impeccable which made it harder for both teams to score. The one goal scored that game was by Sara Hudson for James River. That goal made the final score 1-0 and gave another win to James River Varsity field hockey.
