James River’s “Rapid Fire” basketball team started its official season with a home game on January 10. Many of the players were ecstatic about the coming season and eager to be on the court. Rapid Fire players and their fans can't wait for the season. The anticipation building up to the first home game was almost palpable. Most James River students at least try to make it to home games during lunch. In fact, James River has the greatest student turnout for the special needs basketball league in all of Chesterfield County Public Schools! Talk about showing some Rapid Pride!
Another way James River students like to support our athletes is by making signs. Posters were placed all over the school prior to the game letting everyone know when and where they need to be to watch every play unfold. Almost every poster was handmade, and some signs were even brought to games depicting messages like “GO RAPID FIRE, YOU GOT THIS,” and the famous “WE ARE JR.” Students wanted to ensure our Rapid Fire rookies and returning players felt supported.
The game itself is an absolute madhouse. Between the students, the faculty, and the contestants, the excitement almost bursts through the doors. Students are free to come and go as they please throughout their lunch period, and many teachers allow students to miss their classes on home game days to participate. It is always fun cheering on our team, so make sure to come out and support them at the next game!
